"Miss Mary D. Stillwell, 70 years old, for more than 30 years   a local resident, former principal of school no. 11 and no. 36,   died Friday, April 19, at her home in Chicago. Miss Stillwell was   a native of Crawfordsville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John   Stilwell, both of whom died several years ago. Survivors are 3   sisters, Mrs. George W. Benton and Mrs. James R. Smith, both of   Orange, NJ and Mrs. Paul Thomas of Boston, Mass. Miss Stillwell   had been in ill health two years but her death came unexpectedly,   according to the message received. here. During the long period   she served as principal of schools here, Miss Stillwell became   widely known among teachers of the city and a large number of her   former pupils are now Indianapolis citizens. " Miss Stillwell's   parents lived in the house now occupied by Claude Smith. Her   first teaching was in a subscription school at Dowden. Later she   taught in the town schools.
